Does anyone know how to knit? I crochet but I have always wanted to learn how to knit. So if you do how did you learn and if you do both which is easier/harder to learn?

I am trying to learn!!! A girl at work is showing me right now...but we have been so busy lately...I think I may find a class when we get to Texas!! It seems pretty easy to learn..I have been following a book some

I was just wondering because I was thinking of getting the knitting for dummies because I have the crochet for dummies and it is really informative( even though I have been crocheting since I was 12ish) there were some things that I didn't realize I was doing wrong. So is learning from the book easier or harder?

I just learned to knit a few months ago. It's really easy once you learn the basics. A friend taught me and has been helping me along but I also have a book.

i'm learning! my mom showed me the basics... but i went to target and bought one of those "knit this" kits (they are usually in the stationary aisle), and it came with a DVD that shows the basics. since i don't live near my mom the DVD has been a Godsend. i recommend buying one of those kits even if only for the DVD.

i also have a really good book that i LOVE - it's called Stitch-n-*****. it is really informative.

Yea...the book really helps!! Once you get the casting on part it is really easy!! It took me quite a few tries to cast on right..but I have got it now!!! I do know that the best size needle to start with is either a 7, 8, or 9...and don't use plastice..either metal or wood!! I have bamboo and I love em!!

i have metal 8's! and don't start with "nice" yarn. just buy yourself a junky skein of regular yarn at wal-mart. i've also found that using the variegated type is really helpful for the initial learning part of knitting because you usually wind up with different colored stitches to work with. i bought a variegated skein of blue/green/yellow yarn from wal-mart, and i am still experimenting with it.

it's really a lot of fun. i'm trying to master purling right now but it totally throws me off.

I crochet but don't knit. I want to learn to knit, but my mother-in-law who does both says that knitting takes forever compared to crochet. I also think she said that crochet it easier for her. I like the way things that are knitted look, but it already takes so long for me to complete a project I couldn't imagine it taking longer if I knitted.

you know I have heard that but from both sides, ie a knitter will say crocheting was too hard to learn and vice versa. I too like how knitted things look and I want to learn so I can have more options when it comes to patterns. thanks for the advice ladies.

I knit when I have time. I actually learned by looking it up online 1 day

and I learned all the basic information I needed. My mom taught me as a little girl but that was many many years ago and I had forgotten how...Online kicked started my memory or something! I started with a cheapo yarn and once I had the hang of it I went and bought the good stuff I wanted. Course now I haven't had time to finish what I started back when I was pregnant

But I do have alot of fun with it
