Knitting... Help!? - Hobby Lobby

Ok I know there are ladies in here somewhere who know how to knit.. I'm lost.. the first part of the instructions say

"Holding 2 strands of yarn together throughout, long-tail cast on 104 sts."

ok so I learned how to do the long-tail cast on from youtube but when it says holding 2 strands etc.. does that mean I have two pieces of yarn from two different yarn balls and acting like they're one strand of yarn.. and if that's the case am I pretending that two loops on my needle is in fact 1 of the 104 stitches or is it just helping me get to 104 doubly fast? i'm so confused.

I only know the basics from example and not the lingo. So, I'm no help.

I know! I can knit a scarf!!

but now i'm trying a cable knit throw and I'm so lost.. even with a beginner book.. but I'm excited to be trying it!

I learned to knit from YouTube! Do a search for "how to knit" vidoes and there are some seriously awesome ones! Check them out!

I think you hold the two like they're one strand and then still cast on 104. I'm a newbie and could be horribly wrong though. But I would do that and if it looks weird start over.

My dad is giving me heck about it.. He said "you learned to fly an airplane I'm sure you can figure out how to knit an afghan.. something little old ladies sit around and do"

That's what I was guessing too.. man 104 is a lot! I'm going to lose count so many times

From what you are saying it says...Yes, you hold them together like they are one string. and yes, most likely, you just treat the double loops as one.
