Newbie posts - Help Desk

Is there any way to require newbies make an introduction post in the newbie forum, before allowing them access to other forums?!

I've noticed newbies making their 1st post in random places...

I don't think it should be required, but it is kinda weird if they dont

So many people have the newbies forum blocked though. I wouldn't even notice if they introduced themselves first.

It's good etiquette but Capt. brought up a good point. And even then not everyone on the board sees it even if they don't have it blocked...so they still jump in anywhere.

I know there's a recommendation that they hang out in the Bored Room for awhile until people begin to recognize them and what not.

I like reading the new introductions. I can be hesitant to respond to a new poster if they are posting an unusual topic or question and they haven't really introduced themselves.

Just like if random people on the street walk up to me, I'm usually a little hesitant to talk to them, especially on a personal level, if I don't know who they are.

I don't think there is a rule

but I know when DB made an account he was a bit hounded to make a Newbie post. So I always assumed it was one of the understated rules

I don't think it should matter who has the newbie forums blocked or not. It shouldn't matter if you or I read their newbie post. The fact that a newbie wouldn't be able to access any other forums until he/she posts an introduction in the newbies forum would be a deterrent from having people jump into thread conversations when we know nothing about the person.

I just feel my suggestion would ALSO be helpful in spammer situations.
