My Dad's Xmas gift - he loved it.
I've worked on it for quite a long time and finally got it done last night at 4:00am and here's witness to my insanity.

It is a shadowbox with all the fixins - and then some. Measures 12 x 16 (4" deep) and weighs in at a whopping 8 lbs.
The cross is classic - E4/1 18g3/16" Stainless.
The plaque reads "Put on the armor of God so that you may take yoru stand against the schemes of the devil . . . Ephesians 6:11" and it's stamped with die-tap letters (my first plaque with these things so my lettering is all over.)
The stones are real stones - some flat-foot slate that I picked up at the hardware store and they're overlayed and magically held together.
The frame is a nice deep shadowbox and the backing is covered with suedaline.

If anyone attempts such a thing in the future I suggest giving the damned liquid nails 2 weeks to set.
One week wasn't enough - I nearly had a heartattack when I flipped it over during framing in order to anchor the wood back into place and the stone slowly slipped and clicked on the glass.
So I then just plastered it with screws and twist-wire to hold it in place. (screws hidden behind the stones, of course, and the wires hugging the corners of the stones to hold it in place - I tried to make it as unobtrusive as possible)

And i vow i shall never do it again - at least not without a drill

What a great gift I'm glad he loved it. Sorry it was a pain and took you so long though. I guess I wont be making anything like that in the near future.

    that is AMAZING!
"And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation -- some fact of my life -- unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake... unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy."

    Thanks everyone

And it's still together! After the trouble i had to put it together I was really worried it wouldn't stay that way after I gave it to him - but it has. Hopefully the adhesives will dry, soon, and it'll be quite solid.

He called last night to ask me on ideas of how to hang it and I suggested standing it on top of a shelf and just anchoring it to a wall for verticle support so it doesn't tip over - and that'll prevent a nasty crash n smash.
Yeah - I didn't think of the "hanging it" aspect when I put it together
