Hanukkah/Chanukkah/Hanuka
Do you have any special traditions for any of the 8 nights? Is there a certain order that you use to give your kids their gifts (ie smallest to biggest, do they all have a common theme, etc) Do you have any good recipes that you want to share?

Thank you for asking!
We number DS's presents still. My parents numbered ours until we were a little older (DS is 10). We wait until after dinner is over and dishes are done before we light the candles and sing the Hanukkah blessings. I put the presents out on display a week before (a form of torture I got from my parents) The rule is, you can't touch, only look until the night you open the present. We don't have any Jewish friends around here, and my family is all on the East coast, so it's just us, and we make it fun. ![]() I found that DS does the same thing I did with the candles, he gueses which one will burn out last, it's like a candle race ![]() I'm always sad when the last candle burns out on the last night... Happy soon to be Hanukkah to you!!! |

I'm excited for Hanukkah this year... we're actually going to do a big party this year, complete with lots of greasy, fattening foods, dreydle, and the like.
It'll be nice to share our traditions with our friends this year

We usually have a huge family Hanukkah party, with my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. There are about 20 people, but we always add more with SO's and such. We always have latkes, but for the past few years we've had curry sweet potato latkes too, and they're delicious!
As for every other night of Hanukkah, we try to light the candles together, but it can get hard. I live 5 miles away from my parent's house, so I can easily do it, but my brother that lives in town lives further away, so he's not always up for it! But we'll open a few presents during Hanukkah, but we really try to wait until my oldest brother comes into town to open them all. |

Just thought I'd share! I made this plate today (it's a Menorah made with my hands). It hasn't been put in the kiln, so it'll look way better after that happens. I'll be sure to update when I get it back
