Thanksgiving for two
This is my first year cooking Thanksgiving dinner for Dh. I don't want to make too too much so I was wondering what you all thought would be enough to cook and still have a nice meal.
The main dish will be a small turkey. How many sides should I cook and what would you suggest? (or you can tell me what your sides are) Thanks so much!

My DH had Thanksgiving one year with just the two of us. I did turkey breasts instead of a whole one. We still had the normal stuff..dressing, green bean casserole, mac and cheese, rolls, cranberry sauce, pie, all the yummies, I just fixed it all in smaller quantities.

Last year it was just the two of us. We did a turkey breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, green beans, yams, and pumpkin pie.

our first thanksgiving it was just DH and myself. i did the smallest turkey i could find, mashed potatoes (a really small batch), stuffing (stove top lol), green been casserole, gravy and rolls. unfortunately, DH is super picky so it was only me eating the potatoes and green bean casserole lol.

If you're concerned about leftovers, you could do a roaster size chicken, or even a turkey breast instead of a full size turkey.
an 8x8 size casserole dish of green bean casserole and stuffing would be plenty. Good luck, I remember how nervous I was when I made my first Thanksgiving dinner.

wild rice and mushroom rice stuffing is always a great side. I would do 3-4 sides incl gravy and stuffings.
Cranberry sauce with orange zest, and sweet potatoes simmered in a little orange juice then put that in the broiler with marshmallows on top and its delicious. |

What are your DH's favorite sides? My DH would like turkey, dressing, white gravy, green beans mac and cheese, cornbread, rolls, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and a bunch of deserts, my hubby is so picky though. If it were me, I would make turkey, stuffing. brown gravy, cornbread, carrots, mashed potatoes, and some deserts. I will be eating at my mom's this year, so I will just be helping her cook.
