    Colorado Springs/Peterson AFB

Help! In the ever-changing plan for our future, apparently Peterson AFB is now a possibility. Why the Navy keeps dangling Air Force bases, I don't know, but it makes it tough to research because no one I know goes to these places. So, help a girl out. What do I need to know? Is there a nice downtown area, and if so where would that be. (Walkable, apartments or lofts, lots of shops and restaurants, etc., but still reasonably clean and safe)?

It his a good thing or a bad thing?

LOVED Colorado Springs. We were at Carson for 3 years and I worked at Peterson for a little bit.

We lived downtown and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the springs, unless it's up in the mountains.
Everything on Tejon street is awesome. Lots of great restaurants, live bands, good food and beer. Colorado Springs has some pretty sweet breweries.
Colorado College is right around there too and it's a nice private college.

Lots of people from Carson and Peterson like to live near Powers and Platte (near Peterson) but I think it's too crowded. The houses are fine but I like the cute old houses downtown better. There are tons of stores, shopping and restaurants out that way but it was easy to just drive there.

    Don't live in Fountain.

Obviously Garden of the Gods and Manitou are awesome for visiting but I loved going up to Divide and Cripple Creek. Cripple Creek is an old mining town that now has a strip of casinos that are surrounded by the history and mountains sitting at 9494 ft.

Denver is an easy drive away and has a huge airport. You can find good prices out of the Colorado Springs airport though.

If you have a specific area you are looking at, let me know and I can tell you what I think of it. Or any other specific questions about the Springs!

    Let's do it again!
In downtown, are there any more high density, multi use type buildings. A 10 story building with 9 floors of apartments and commercial space on the ground floor--that sort of thing? Suburbia is not for me, and "cute little houses" aren't really either. I don't need a yard, and I certainly don't want a large property to take care of. And we don't even really need a massive house. Im more of an urban, semi-industrial person, but I'm not sure that exists in this area. I'm surprised as I imagine CS to be a moderately large city, which usually means that sort of down town, but I'm not seeing it. I'm seeing HUGE houses for well under DH's BAH, but I don't want 3500 sqft. DH and I would be rattling around loose in a space that large! I'll trade space for a doorman and a fitness center and a roof top deck space!

Also, when you mention downtown, is that the area South of Colorado College, near (but maybe north east of?) the intersection of the 87 and 25? And.or near "Knob Hill?" There is no area marked "downtown" on Google maps so I'm trying to orient myself.

If that's what you're looking for I can't really help ya. That sounds awful to me. This is the CS downtown...

Tejon and Colorado are probably right in the middle of that.

I love Colorado Springs for all the reasons you might hate it. but try looking near Austin Bluffs in the Northeast Colorado Springs area or maybe Falcon (more east of there).

These are all fascinating questions. We will leave Japan in late January. Probably. No idea when we will know for sure what's next; this CO thing could very easily not happen.
