Well, someone just tried to scam me...

Not sure if anyone else has gotten a call like this, but in case you do, be careful. I just got a call from someone pretending to be from Microsoft Live Support, saying they got notice that my computer was infected by malicious software and something. Which to me already seemed off. He kept insisting on being from Microsoft and trying to help fix my computer. To prove it was infected, he told me to press the windows key and R. Well, since I had no idea what that combination would do and cause it really sounded like a scam (I mean, what are the chances Microsoft, and on top of that an office based in California, would call me here in Germany), I googled what he was telling me to do and surprise surprise, the first hit I got was a story about it being a scam. I told him that and he hung up on me right away

Here's a link where someone talks about the same thing happening to them: windows-live-support-scam/ This is almost word for what what the guy told me. It also seems that this has been going on since at least 2010.

Well, just wanted to share in case anyone else gets a call from them.

"Thank you so much. No matter what, nothing is possible without you behind the scenes bustin heads and takin names. Thank you again. Everything you have done for me means a lot and nothing has gone unnoticed. I love you so much and thank you for saying 'I do.'"

It's kind of scary that people are able to get your information easily, and are able to scam people like that. Thanks for the heads up!
