Military relationships: Tips and Advice.
So, recently I've been seeing a lot of people discussing problems with their relationships on this site, and I figured that maybe it would helpful if we posted tips on how to deal with certain things when they occur in your relationship. There are lots of issues that we deal with as military so's that I do think are different from non-military relationships, and sometimes it helps to have advice from someone who understands, especially for those that are new to the community. I know that everyone's relationship is different, but what are some important things that you've learned since being a military so?
I'll start: here's a few things I've learned. (Some from experience, some from observation.) 1.) Just because your so does not call immediately, or for a while while he's deployed does not mean he doesn't care, or that he's being callous. Sometimes it can mean something entirely different. 2.) When your guy says that he can't wait to "go back", it's not anything personal against you. Sometimes service members may feel more productive, or at home while deployed. It's not saying that they don't care, or they can't stand to be around you. 3.) I think this applies in every relationship, but, giving your partner space to breath can be a necessity to a relationship. 4.) Insecurity and overly jealous, territorial behavior is not sexy 5.) Not every woman is a devil temptress out to seduce your man. 6.) This one is something I have found myself repeating a lot recently, but I think it's important: Being single is not the end of the world. Learn to be your own best friend. You're less likely to put up with bull**** and disrespect in a relationship when you know you're okay with being by yourself. 7.) Just because there has been infidelity in your relationship, does not always mean your relationship is permanently damaged or beyond repair. Trust your gut instinct. Most times you know if your so is being sincere or not. (Clearly, this one varies depending upon circumstance.) What else did I miss? Feel free to post. ETA: Jenn came up with the idea of putting advice in the op that way people could just see it when they opened the thread., instead of having to search for it. Here's a few really good ones courtesy of Jana: 2. Talk about finances and don't blame the bank if you make an overdraft. 4. No mater what, it is still his family. As much as his family drives you bonkers, his family will be there no matter what. 5. Yes, he will talk and communicate with females at work. 6. If you have a problem with your SO, go to him to resolve things.

Thank you for posting this. I know many members can benefit from this advice, and right now, this is exactly what I need to keep repeating to myself.

If some girl is calling, texting, sending risque pics, etc. to your man and he isn't taking any action against it, be mad at your man, not JUST the girl. Reword as you see fit.

Yes, this! ( I made it bigger because I think more people need to see this.) Also, don't call the girl cursing her out, especially if your man hasn't taken the steps to check that heffa.

ETA Maybe you should add good advice ideas people have to the OP that way we can reference people to this and they'll see it right in the OP. Also it'll keep people from giving the same advice ideas in this thread. Just a thought. |

1. APOLOGIZE, APOLOGIZE, APOLOGIZE!! Even if you think you are in the right. When you have a disagreement, forgive each other and move on.
2. Talk about finances and don't blame the bank if you make an overdraft. 3. It is not what you say, but how you say it. 4. No mater what, it is still his family. As much as his family drives you bonkers, his family will be there no matter what. 5. Yes, he will talk and communicate with females at work. 6. If you have a problem with your SO, go to him to resolve things.
