Two toy/christmas questions :D
1. Do you get rid of toys they have grown out of to make room for new toys and things? A lot of his toys are babyish that he doesnt even touch and take up so much room - so I wanted to take the stuff I really was attatched to and put it in storage at DH's parents or sell some of the stuff and DH thinks thats insane, that babies are meant to have tons of things in their room but the clutter others me.. and why keep stuff hes not even going to use? I am trying to be practical and we dont have a ton of money for christmas, so to me it makes sense to sell the stuff he doesnt use and use the money towards his christmas stuff - Plus as hes getting older I would rather have his room full of books and puzzles and things that are growing with him rather then rattles and stuffed animals, KWIM? Just thought id get some opinions on that..
and 2. Moms of boys - Do you buy your sons things that could be considered 'girly' . . I bought Carter an ADORABLE kitchen for christmas, its not girly, at all, in fact it looks sort of like a real kitchen and he looooves helping in the kitchen and what not, and at day care thats the only thing he plays with.. I dont see the issue with it but DH says its too girly for his son (his dad is putting these ideas in his head saying his grandson is not allowed to have these toys, might as well buy him barbies

I buy Autumn any toy, regardless of what gender it is "intended" for. She has a kitchen and a tool box, dollhouse and a pirate ship, castle with knights and dragons and princesses. I feel like she is more well rounded this way, honestly.
Yes, I get rid of toys that she has outgrown or those that she doesn't play with very often to make room for new ones.

2. I think a kitchen is a great gift and as long as its not pink I don't see any problem with it.

We do a "toy sweep" for every major gift getting holiday... You can either craigslist it, if its nice, and make a little extra cash... or donate it...
My son plays with whatever he wants.. He is 2 1/2, but his sister is 3 1/2, so.... .we have a ton of both "boy/girl" toys.. he is into stuffed animals now.. he calls them "his son" or "his kid" and pretends to be the daddy.. he also plays with the kitchen, and is always daddy or grandpa.... so while he plays with girl toys, he never says he is gonna be the mommy... he knows the difference between girls and boys.. and his dad (when home) cooks 75% of the meals in the house! |

We always get rid of a bunch of toys just before Christmas to make room for the new ones. We have very little room for anything extra though because we live with family for now.

My son has tons of "girly" toys. If its something I know he'll play with, I will usually buy it for him. He has barbies, a play kitchen (which he loves-- boys can cook too!), baby dolls, "girly" dress up clothes, and also trains, cars, trucks, dinosaurs, toy soldiers, etc. DH doesn't have an issue with them either, he'll help him cook in his kitchen, tuck his baby dolls into bed, and make paper airplanes for him for hours.
When it comes to old toys, we usually either donate the ones he doesn't play with, or save them in case we have a future child that might use them. Luckily we have a full basement, and a full walk up attic so we've got the storage space.
