Kindergarten Survival Guide

So my oldest child is starting Kindergarten on the 8th. I'm going to have to miss the Kindergarten orientation, because it is conveniently scheduled at the same time as an event inwhich people will be telling me how awesome I am So, by missing this, is my daughter doomed to be a kindergarten failure? What should I know as a first time school age parent. Any tips, tricks, suggestions? I'm having control issues about this all, especially after being told they dont need school supplies..

Also, parents whose kids had to take medicine at school, how much of a pain in the butt was it?

I would find out who the teacher is and try to either call her/him or send an email. I'm sure that they will share in any info that you would need to know, without you having to be there. This will also show the teacher that you are proactive in your child's education. I think that most teachers are very understanding as long as they have a heads up that you won't be available.
