Are you a Book Parent?
Do you believe everything you read, or do you just look at them and then make your own decision on what to do?
I have that what to expect when expecting the first year and I use it to just see what it says but thats about it...We arent book parents.

The only time Im a book parent is when it comes to eating. My oldest didnt get cereal or any solids until she was 6 months old. Rhyann will be the same. We give all thier shots also. Other than that, Im a baby wearing, cosleeping, non CIO type of mom.

I read tons of books when I was preggo and still read tons of books. I am glad I did, because it led me to getting Riley evaluated and getting his speech therapy going. I will never stop educating myself... doesn't mean I have to do it, but in my opinion, there is always something to learn.

I like to read books to get suggestions or as a possible different angle to look at things...but as far as parenting by a certain book or method...no...not at all. God didnt give us instruction manuals for our children...I dont think we were meant to have one.
Now for keeping educated on certain problems that can come up, what to watch for as far as their health, social behavior, speech...things like that......TOTALLY FOR THAT. I dont think enough parents keep themselves educated on how to be proactive on those issues. Ultimately tho...parental instinct is something that should be relied on. |

The best book I have ever read on parenting... Barbara Colorosso "Kids are worth it" helped me to clarify how I felt about certain parenting issues.
She is fabulous and I highly reccomend her. I have heard her speak and it is truly inspirational. She has dealt with everything from toddler issues to teens getting arrested (she worked with high risk youths) But I am not a "book parent", but I believe in educating myself.
