    Tax/divorce question

    Advertisements
So I'm not officially divorced yet, but our hearing is on the 26th so I assume I will be then? If I wait until after that's done can I file as a single person, or do I still have to file as married filing separately or whatever because I was married all year?

Or, who would I ask about this? I'm trying to use like tax slayer or whatever so I don't have to speak to anybody. Should I just go to hr block?

I am not a tax person.... But I would assume Married-Filing Separately since you were married all of 2015.

You were married that tax year. I THINK you would file Married; but, filing separately.

next year, you would file single.

Yes, it is just like parents getting to claim a dependent for the child born in December.

I believe so. I think it's whatever you were the majority of the year. I remember my parents being upset that I got married in May and not after July because they couldn't claim me as a dependent.

Yes, agree with above posts. I got married in October 2012, and on 2012 taxes, I filed married.
