I'm just confused about stuff that's not a monthly expense. Like car insurance, we pay every 6 months. Also, it keeps telling me to have my savings as on-budget accounts but I don't feel like I should? Like, I never touch it, it's emergency savings.

What is usually recommended is if you have a non-monthly expense, you should be putting money aside for it monthly anyway- so you have a separate account and each month you put 1/6 (or 1/12) of your car insurance amount in it, then pay it from that.

For savings, I think it is because it assumes you will be contributing to savings, so you want to have it included in your budget as a line item that you are adding money to it.

It also takes about a month for YNAB to figure everything out, because the point of it is to pay this month's bills on last month's income- aka you know how much money you have, and can afford this month, because you've already earned it. Most people budget based on what they think/know they will earn during that month.

I have emergency savings as an on budget account. I figure if I have an emergency it'll be easy to debit out what I needed with it that way. Plus if I don't touch it, it's just sitting there with the balance.

I just switched to using it from Dave Ramsey's budget tool. I'm still a little confused about rule number 4 and how the rollover works but I LOVE how it connects to my phone.
