    Home Budget Ideas?

    Advertisements
I've been poking at the budget for awhile not and I am not sure I am content with it. What line items are on your monthly budget? I figure other people's ideas/commitments/goals could inspire my brain.

Ours is so boring, we have:
    Rent
    Power
    Water
    Internet
    Phone
    Car repair
    Military clothing
    Food
    Gas
    Insurance
    House stuff
    DH's student loan
    My student loans
    Entertainment
    Netflix
    DH spending moola
    My spending moola

I break my budget up and have a great binder system for keeping everything organized.
    Our bills right now are:
    Rent
    Car/home insurance
    Phone
    Credit card
    Student loan
    Electric
    Gas
    WSG
    TV
    Internet
    Dental

Everything else is flexible spending and adjusts depending on where we are each month. I do not consider those things bills because they vary. Things like food, gas, eating out, extras. DH and I also don't have set "spending amounts" each month because we rarely buy things for ourselves and when we decide to if we have enough in the flexi allotment we just do it.

I subscribe to the K.I.S.S method of budgeting and bill pay that way things aren't missed and it allows for the easiest (IMO) organization. I handle three personal accounts and my business accounts along with their associated credit cards and I've found this method and the binder system to be the best way of keeping it all in order. I am a freak about it all being super organized.

Our bills are automatically deducted from our accounts so I have a set amount that's put in to those accounts every month.

    Our budget is pretty simple:
    Main bill account
    Car insurance
    Credit card
    Star card
    Savings

And then I rough estimate how much we'll spend on gas, going out to eat and groceries.

"The purpose of life is not to simply be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
    - Ralph Waldo Emerson

After reading about your organized binder I looked up from my laptop and saw this:

I think we can officially say its me. I am officially admitting I'm a hot mess. No wonder I am so fried, my brain is working harder than it needs too.

Just want to say a quick thanks to everyone who posted here.

It can be hard just getting started on a budget, but actually seeing other people's categories laid out like this really helps.

There are definitely suggestions here I would have overlooked.
