    Pay change during deployment*

Does anyone know, typically, how long it takes for the LES to switch to tax free during a deployment? Trying to budget a little differently while he is away!

Typically, tax exempt status goes into effect when "boots are on the ground" overseas. However, for us (Army, not sure if it's the same military wide), they deducted the taxes each pay period while DH was overseas and then refunded them on the following statement. So his first chunk of time overseas did have taxes deducted without the refund.

depends on where he is. not all deployments are tax free. if he is in one of the locations it will not show for 30 -45 days after boots on the ground. remember all pay and allowance are paid in arrears.
