Budget/Savings Help - Financial Management

Dh and I are in 2 different states for the next year or so. This has put a strain on the finances because no one is there to keep him accountable (I'm the one that takes care of the bills, etc) We pay our mortgage, 2 car payments, cc and everything on time of course but the trouble is the money left over. I put some in to savings only to bring it back out because he went nuts somewhere. We both need some spending money but we need to save too. I don't know what to do. Are there budget sites you use? Has anyone been in a similar situation? I know that after everything is paid we should still have money left over but it never seems to be there. Ugh. Its so frustrating.

Dave Ramsey. I will recommend this man to everyone. All about using cash. When the cash runs out, no more spending.

We're sort of in that situation now- he's deployed and I'm staying with my parents, but we were in separate states for a couple of months and will be again in a month or so. We agreed on a set amount of spending money for each of us (for food, gas, entertainment, etc) each paycheck- I transfer the money into our accounts on the 1st and 15th, and use the rest of the money for bills and savings. If he needs more, he lets me know and I tell him whether our situation will allow it. It's the only way it would work. I'm more knowledgeable about our finances and responsible with money, and if we each had equal access to the main account, without always communicating about our financial situation (bills paid, bills yet to go out, and every purchase made), we would have some problems.

We're starting with the Dave Ramsey program but we also do things much like Amy. I handle the bills and we each have a "spending" account and IF there is money we can spent it gets divided between the two accounts.

I don't get Dave Ramsey. I guess I don't like having to spend money on a program that is supposed to teach you how to save. ??
Yeah we are gonna do spending accounts and when its gone, its gone.

we are in this situation. well, dh doesn't spend anything outside of getting off the ship to eat once in awhile. we have a mortgage, 2 car payments as well. we decided to put the house up for rent and move into housing. it's just easier. is costs dh $120 in gas to come home on weekends and it wasn't working out.
