Budget Question - $200/mo for gas?

Our budget numbers keep changing and its making me so frustrated!! Is $200/month reasonable for gas? I don't work outside the home on a regular basis - I am a photographer and only taking shoots sporadically right now.

Right now we estimate that DH drives 120 miles/week to and from work and we are getting crappy gas mileage at 18mpg. Gas right now is $2.24. DH says he thinks our gas tank is 13 gallons.

I suck at the math to know if $200 SHOULD be enough for to/from work gas.

What do you budget for gas? How did you come up with that amount?

DH and I spend around $200 a month on gas but I do work(sort of). Our cars get better gas mileage but gas is more expensive here and I'm sure we drive more than 120 miles a week so I'd say $200 is a safe amount.

I'd say try it and see what happens. Your first month on the the budget you should be able to adjust at the end of the month and know what areas are not enough and what you have too much budgeted for. I budget $300 for gas and it's just me. But, I am a Realtor and do a LOT of driving. I never spend that much though. Most months I only spend around $200.

When DH is home we would spend around $200.00 a month for gas I got to that number from just paying attention to how much it costs to fill up at the pump and how often. I work from home and that would include all of our driving not just work

I always budgeted for gas by keeping track of my credit card purchases and just taking two or three months, adding up my gas purchases, and averaging them out.... I love paper trails. Biggest reason why I won't use cash

I'm like you in this respect... I am off to find that little record book we keep under the seat for when we fill up!

I wish budgeting was easier but for the last 6(ish) months our income has changed from what it should be (up and down) so its thrown our budget completely off!

Before I responded I went to check our credit card statements to make sure we were spending around $200.

$200 sounds like a good number. I spend a little under $100 a month for just myself and regular unleaded is about $2.70 here right now.

Idk what DH spends. I fill up and it lasts me for a good month or two but I rarely leave the house
