I am not a big fan of leasing cars, would you be able to buy a beater car that will get you from A to B for cheap that way you don't have the restrictions of a leased car?

I'm not a huge fan of leasing either, but if that's what you want to do than go for it. Other than that your plan sounds great! I would definitely cut up the credit cards or freeze them in a big block of ice so that they stay paid off.

I think it all sounds good, except for leasing a car. have you thought about buying an older used car for while your there? You could sell it when you leave it get some money back.

Everything sounds like a good idea but....I would not lease. Your throwing your money away.
Here some web sites that give some info on leasing: http://www.carbuyingtips.com/lease5.htm http://www.leaseguide.com/lease03.htm http://www.automotive.com/auto-loans...ar-buying.html http://www.automotive.com/auto-loans...ar-buying.html another idea would be to buy something cheap. A older honda, toyota or Acura that you know would last. |

I've never heard of a 24 month lease, but if they have them, it sounds like a good idea to me. My best friend's dad sells cars and he says that people with the most money lease cars because they don't want to purchase something that depreciates. I'm no money whiz, but that makes sense to me.

I heard from a friend who just traveled to Hawaii to visit a friend that no one has a decent car there. She said that when you leave your car you take EVERYTHING with you or lock it in your trunk. She said the people with the "nice" cars are those who are quickly targeted as tourists who are renting a car. For that reason, I don't think it would be a bad idea to sell it and pay off your debt. Her friend got a car that used for a few years for $500 bucks and just moved back to NJ and sold it for the same $500 he paid for it. Good luck!

Also, how does your mom feel about you selling her gift to you? Another also - cut up your credit cards.
