How do you save money??

I am HORRIBLE when it comes to saving money. How do you ladies save your money??

It really seems like if I have it, I spend it. (No matter if it's paper or plastic).

I'm about to get an old fashioned piggy bank that I have to smash to get the money out...I always feel bad breaking them .

But really, any advice on saving money would be great!!!

I have a savings account that a certain amount gets put in every check. If there is anything left over by the next check that goes into savings too.

My problem is that I'm a college student. I don't have a job when I'm in school, I don't have a car to get to a job, and there's nowhere around to work.

The savings account doesn't work for me, I just go to the good ol' ATM and take money right out...I fail

If you want a job but don't have a car, try looking into working on campus somewhere. Also, my friend in college didn't have a car, but walked or took the bus to her job at starbucks. Is your school in a somewhat urban setting?

Then you should just start by cutting on expenses.
Do you live at home? do you have bills to pay?
You can always open the savings account and not get an ATM for it.
I have a savings account from a credit union that's nowhere near here, I have no plastic for it so whatever is there, stays there.

The Jobs on campus pay you through tuition. You never actually see the money. And it's only 5 hours a week. I live in the middle of nowhere. the nearest anything is 45 minutes away, and the bus doesn't take you there. I've been going around town looking for jobs, but in the wintertime, it gets to the -30s here. so walking two miles to town really sucks. I mean I'll do it, it just sucks..KWIM?

If I'm in a saving money mood I always act like I'm completely broke.
It's amazing how quickly money can stack up by watching movies at home, not eating out, or not buying clothes. Like right now since the hubs is away, we're having spouses night where we kick it by making dinner at someone's house and watching really bad movies. It's awesomely fun, and I spend more money on gas getting around than on anything else.

No cable tv @ home, no eating out, buy off-brand groceries and stick to a list... Change cell plans or cut cell service completely...

I don't. I live in the dorms. I use my meal plan to buy all my food, and steal food from the caf and bring it to my dorm. The only bill I really worry about is my CC bill. Which i never use, and when I do use it, I pay in full so i have no interest building up.
The savings account with no plastic is probably a good idea.
