Some advice about accounts
I have my own account at a very small bank. They have like 3 locations in Massachusetts and that's it. Am I better off switching to USAA or Navy Fed? I'm not really near those banks either
Can I do that with my account once I'm a dependent-or do I have to have Mike on the account with me? We are going to put me on his Navy Fed account, and we have another account at another bank together.

We have a credit union main account, one that is only available in Alaska and WA.dh opened it up when he joined the Navy and there was no Navy Fed around him. We have had it for our whole marriage. with share branching we are able to do things like we are at our own branch. We also have USAA and we are going to eventually switch over everything one day. Before share branching I used to open an account at a local credit union to cash checks or do stuff like that.
To open a USAA account you have to be in DEERS ( they do a check) once you guys are married you can open an account in your name, both your names whatever you like. I prefer USAA over Navy Fed because i have had horrible experiences with Navy Fed. Hope that helps some and I didn't confuse you too much.

If there is only 3 branches for your current bank, is it possible to do all the things you'd like to do online? If the answer is yes, then I'd keep the bank you have and maybe in the future, once you're a dependent, if you want to, open an account at USAA or NFCU.
I've never had an account at USAA. So, I couldn't tell you which is better. We've always banked at NFCU, though. Never had a reason to switch and I totally love doing all our banking online. (We're overseas right now and we're able to pay what we need to pay in the states easily and without any problems.)
