What type of savings plans/investment plans should Mike and I have? We're 20 and 21, getting married in a few weeks. What do you have? Any advice?

Lets just say you guys have no savings account. I would start with a basic one so you can start building up and then once you have the minimum to open a higher performance type of savings account you'll be able to do it. Most savings accounts that earn best interest/return will require a higher amount to open it with. So 1st I would start with a basic one (USAA has really good interest rates) and then you can go from there and probably open a Money Market account and so on.

We have our tsp, and club savings.
We strive to make sure that there is atleast a few hundred rolling over into it every paycheck. It's definately not our long term solution....... but it's working for us right now.

definitely start with a savings account, then look into once you get say 500 open a cd, if you can spare the money for the time you need to have it in there. Also Mike should start ( if he hasn't already) his TSP and add as much as he can without hurting the budget into that. We also buy I-bonds through mypay. they are great because you can do them in really small increments every pay day and when they are paid for you get them in the mail. we have a few grand in savings bonds. and actually they helped us out when we were in a bind because you can cash them after you have had them a year ( although you should keep them for at least 5 to get a good return)

We both have Roth's, mutual funds, a few independent investments, college fund for Zoe, a couple of CDs & a regular savings account. We started when we first married (@19) we have a financial advisor through First Command that REALLY helped us start out!

i have an interest-bearing account, kind of like an ING account, but you need a minimum balance ( i think it's a few hundred or 1000) and withdraws need to be a minimum of $250, but the interest is great and gets higher the more you save. we keep this in addition to our regular checking & savings accounts because we deposit into it every month and only withdraw for large purchases. it has worked really well for us. and we have a couple of CDs. i had savings bonds and they helped pay for our wedding.
