Furnishing house-question/advice - Financial Management

Mike and I should be moving into a house on base December of next year. When do you think we should start putting furniture on layaway while he's deployed? Any advice? What did you do?

We want to get nice furniture that will last most of our lives

Right now, we literally have nothing nice between the two of us.

maybe save up the money to buy some furniture rather than layaway unless you have somewhere to put it now. I would save up all the extra money to have a nice chunk to be able to buy it outright.

That's what we thought about doing originally. Can someone explain layaway to me?

well depends on where you go.. you can do a layaway where they hold your stuff for you while you pay, when it is paid off they give you your stuff.. ( actually I have never done this with furniture so I don't know if they even do it)
The other kind is what our NEX called home layaway where they let you take it home while you are paying on it.. With furniture though I would save up and buy it all at once.. that way you have time to sit around and look at ads and what not see what you really like before buying it.

Layway is like this-say you buy $800 worth of stuff ok? You put a certain % down on the stuff & then they give you so many months(some 3, some places more) to pay it off in equal installments until it is paid off & YOURS

I'd just start saving $$$ for the time when you guys get a place.. you don't know what sizes will best fit the place you'll be living in yet and such.

No interest on lay a way, but sometimes there is a service charge or cancellation fee.
