    Married At First Sight

    Advertisements
Has anyone been watching the show Married at First Sight? For those of you who haven't seen it, here's what the show is about:

Based on the hit Danish format, “Married at First Sight” is an extreme social experiment following six brave souls who are yearning for a life-long partnership as they agree to a provocative proposal: getting legally married the moment they first meet. Four specialists – sexologist, Dr. Logan Levkoff; spiritualist, Greg Epstein; psychologist, Dr. Joseph Cilona; and sociologist, Dr. Pepper Schwartz – will create what they believe are three perfect couples, based on scientific matchmaking. The couples will never meet or know each other until they walk down the aisle and see each other face to face, for the first time, when they get married. Each episode of “Married at First Sight” will follow the classic lifestyle stories of newlyweds – from the honeymoon to early nesting to other relatable events of married life. After several weeks together, each couple must make a decision: do they remain together or decide to separate?

What does everyone think about this new show?

So its like what happens in some countries and cultures now. Arranged marriages.
The only problem is, what motivation do the couples have to stay together and try to make the marriage work, and fight through all the problems.

Oh is it on right now? I really like that show. Especially the couple with the girl who was initially repulsed by the guy she had been set up with. It's interesting to watch her slowly start to see past his physical appearance and begin to fall in love with his inner beauty.

We saw the first two episodes. Very, very interesting, and the previews for the upcoming shows even more so. I'm really curious to see where these couples end up.

The show is like marriage on speed. The couples have such a short amount of time to get to know one another all while having to deal with real life marital issues. I've been following the show every week and it's been really interesting to see the relationships progress. In the first episodes Jamie was basically terrified of her new husband Doug, but, as the show has progressed, we start to see her begin to fall in love with him. On the other hand, we have Vaughn and Monet who are absolutely terrible for each other.
I thought i'd hate this show but now i'm really rooting for some of these couples.

    *sociology moment*

It's not quite like arranged marriages. Those are arranged by family members who have a more in depth knowledge of the people, are done to better the family, and contrary to popular belief, children have more say in it (not always but often) than most people think they do. I mean, it's a hell of a lot more complicated than that, but it's not as simple as this reality television show.

    This show sounds super intruiging.

I haven't seen the show yet, but had a question about the marriage vows. Do they say "till death do you part"? but yet they're
going to decide several weeks later whether to stay together or not? Do they or can they still get an annulment several weeks later, or actually divorce?

When they did their vows i don't think "til death do you part" is mentioned. They have 4 or 5 weeks to figure out if they will stay together or get divorced.

It's definitely a show worth checking out. It's not like the bachelor or some cheesy dating show. These newlyweds really are genuinely trying to make this work.
