    SXSW in Austin

    Anyone ever gone?
Any pointers for going without a wristband?
    Anyone going this year?
Suggestions for bands/venues/other to check out?

I've never been down to Austin so I'm totally clueless. Neither DB or I know any of the bands playing thought it'd be neat to check out while I was in town

I've been, though it's been a few years now (it's just gotten too $$ and crowded for my old self ), but I have a few suggestions:

    * Always a wealth of info, including schedules, at the O-fficial website SXSW.com
    * Wear comfortable shoes; you will walk a lot
    * There are lines for everything
    * Make a plan. Wristbands will get you into most shows, and are $165 this year, I think. After badge (first) and wristband holders are let into the venues, they'll let general public purchase tickets until they are filled to cap. However, there's always tons of free concerts, you just have to research them before you go.
    * If you've never been to Austin, just walking up and down 6th St. is worth it, but be prepared for major crowds.
    * Look into the Fader Fort. It's free with RSVP (as other venues are, you just have to research), and lots of up and coming new bands play there.

    Have fun!!

    No parking. Long lines everywhere.

I always have done my best to avoid going out during SXSW; it's insanity!

This is kinda what we were expecting. Thankfully we have parking taken care of and we don't even have too high of hopes of getting into a venue. We mostly just wanna do it to say we experienced it
