I tried to read the book after I saw the movie, but I couldn't do it. They were SO different. The movie was great, and what I read of the book was good, but I couldn't get the movie out of my head the whole time I was reading it.

Is the book better? How is it different?

I spent the whole movie blubbering like an idiot

The book is set in Ireland. Everything about the story is different. I didn't read the whole thing, but it wasn't the same at all.

yep. that's pretty much it. the only real similarity is that he left the letters for her. there are some things that are kinda the same, like her 30th bday, but that's being really generous. david/daniel/whatever his name is is toooooooooooooootally different & there is no william in the book.

I thought the movie was entirely too depressing. Not "hopeful" and "liberating" as my best friend seems to think
    this too shall pass...

i liked both but i think it is because i knew they were completely different before i chose to read and watch them. i viewed them as stories with simularities and the same titles lol. I actually do that with a lot of books I read that come out in movie form.
I feel the need to be petted too!
