Employment non-discrimination act
Thought some would be interested in seeing this. I don't know this girl, but a couple of my LGBT friends do, so I've gotten to witness the fight first-hand. Basically this bill will, among other things, prevent those with "alternative lifestyles" from being discriminated against in the workplace.

In her situation I think the bill is appropriate...
But, Personally, I think that it would depend on what they mean by "alternative" lifestyles. For example, a person who believes they're a vampire, and walks and talks like one. I'm thinking I wouldn't hire them due to professionalism. You might laugh at the example, but I actually knew a couple that practiced this.

I was actually the one that inserted "alternative lifestyles" as a description, not them. It was probably a misnomer - it's to prevent prohibition based on sexual orientation or gender identity. It would basically broaden exisiting federal law to include these groups as protected classes. |

Basically, this girl was formerly a man. She had a job at the GA state house, working as a legislative aide. Her immediate supervisors knew of her gender transition, but their boss fired her when she decided to transition full time because they thought others would find her "immoral" and would make others uncomfortable. The bill is looking to add homosexuals and transgendered persons to classes protected by civil rights laws for employment. |

I guess my thoughts are...why does anyone need to know about your alternative lifestyle?
If you were born a man and are now a woman...who needs to know that you used to be a man? And if you're gay/lesbian, who needs to know?

And what if someone sees you out at a gay bar? Or you run into your boss with your partner at the grocery store, mall or movies and you're holding hands? |
