i'm white and i'm stoked as hell to have a black president. its 2009, and i was so ready to see an end to our legacy of WASP-y presidents. (well, JFK as blue blood as he was, was catholic).

She was also going to be a VICE president, there is a big difference. But voting for someone BECAUSE of the color of their skin, that's racist. It's funny that there is another thread right now about racism and everybody crying because racism "still exists", yet they're the ones voting for a president because he's black. I just find it hilarious.

I didn't vote that I like him because he is black, because I don't. I do however like that he is black.

So, I could not care less what his race is as far as my approval of him as a President, but it makes me beyond happy that we have a black President. SO SO SO HAPPY.

I like him because he is a dem and because of his policies overall.

I agree with this, I think he can do a lot of good but I am very upset that the health care reform he promised is getting muddied. I did not vote for him (I voted GP) if I had I would feel very betrayed right about now.

i don't think anyone is saying they voted for him just bc he's black. i was all about getting some diversity in our white house - be that based on race, gender, religion - i have just been so ready to see something different and representative of US, the people. we're not all old white dudes, ya know?

now - why did i vote for obama instead of a palin ticket? policies, 100%
i would never have voted just for the female candidate bc of her gender, nor would i have voted for the black candidate on race alone, its such a bigger picture than that.

and at the end of the day, i do love that one of the many characteristics of our president is that he is indeed black.

Voting for someone is voting for someone is voting for someone... All levels of government matter. She was also a part of a presidential ticket. And I don't think anyone said they voted for the President because he is black; the poll option just shows that as one of many things one can like about him. I agree with radsugar, I like that he's black because it's about damn time we see someone other than a WASP in the presidency.
