Obama = Nazism?
This argument always surprises me when coming from the right. Why? Because to me (Neo)Nazism is as far right as it can get. While the Nazi name derives from a National Socialist movement, to me (by definition) it is still a right winged movement and only Socialist by name. So how can he be a socialist/communist and a Nazi at the same time? And I am being completely serious with this question. Aside from those, Obama is biracial which is another thing that was hated by the Nazis. Maybe, my definition of Nazism is different from those that do spout this argument so if someone could enlighten me that would be wonderful
ETA: My question is more as to what if any arguments they have for calling him a Nazi aside from the shock factor. Last edited by Germanchick; 09-07-2009 at 10:12 AM. |

I don't think Obama is moving us towards Nazism at all. Do I think we're going in the best direction for our country no. But I think the crazy antics of calling him a Nazi, take away from the real problems and the actual bad choices he is making.

Nazism is not socialism (at least in my opinion). That is where people get mixed up I think. And yes, Nazism is a very RIGHT winged idea.

The people that make that argument don't know anything about Nazism, I would even venture to imagine some of them in the most radical sects even deny the Holocaust... but, they do know how to get people's attention....
It's all a part of their fear mongering, and their version of mind control. It's the majority of the reason why I have distanced myself from the Republican party in spite of still being registered as such. At this point I consider myself a Blue Dog Dem... and I get annoyed at the radical fundamentalism that is over-taking this nation... and it's not from Obama. I will say I am a bit annoyed with him/the administration at the moment, because he's showing his inexperience a bit by pandering to special interests and pressures of the Congress... HOWEVER... anything in the area of health care reform is a start that can be built upon so it's not that big a deal to me. |

I don't see Obama moving us toward Nazism, although I am conservative and disagree with many of his positions. I have heard comparisons b/c Obama is pro choice and Nazi's were "pro abortion" and other things like that. But i think that in today's society, claims like that are pretty ridiculous.

I think they are just trying to say that the Democratic Party holds certain positions that are similar to the positions of the Nazi party. They fail to mention that the Nazi party took those positions to the absolute extreme. It's for the shock factor, plain and simple.

That's a serious (and highly inaccurate) stretch.
