S/O ~ SOS Presidential Election

When I saw the SOS Presidential Election thread I got to thinking...

Why are people voting the way they are? So, I thought I would ask!

Why are you voting for the candidate you are?
What issues do you agree with your candidate of choice on?
If you are voting for one just because you refuse to vote for the other, why are you voting against one?

I will post my reasons in a bit.

To be completely honest...I will be short and general...skim, if you will.

I DO NOT believe in raising taxes...that does NOTHING for us as a country. Making the gov't wealthy does not help the American public.

I DO NOT believe in the (very loosely stated) "can't we all just get along"...it doesn't work. The rest of the world (and our enemies) WILL NOT respect that mentality and will see it as vulnerable. We are simply asking for trouble in the homeland by addressing foreign policy by trying to appeal to a "reasonable" side they do not have. Hugging our enemies will not make them hate us any less. People hate out of jealousy, not because we're a ****ty, power-wielding country, which we are (power-wielding that is)...but it's because WE HAVE TO. (I also have a serious problem with the Democrats wanting to cut off funding to our troops...that's just way wrong)

I DO NOT believe in apologizing for our countries actions. That IMO takes away from everything America is, and I find it very ironic that a lot of people seem to forget that the country they claim to love was BUILT on Republican ideals.

I do like Obama...I think he is very charismatic, and I think TO HIM and all of his supporters he makes complete sense...HOWEVER, he comes off as very staged to me...for instance his response on Palin's daughter...I think the Dems were ITCHING to rake her over the coals for that...but how it would look for them to do that would put a bad light over them...therefore, I think it was slightly set up for Obama to address it the way he did.

ON THE OTHER HAND...I DO NOT BELIEVE IN PRO-LIFE. I am very pro-choice and the Rep platform irks me on that particular subject. However, the fact is, abortion is never going to be abolished...no matter what the Rep stance is, so it's a minor issue ..TO ME.

Personally, I agree with both parties on separate issues...but I align more with the McCain/Palin.

I am DYING to hear from Palin tonight. This could go either terribly bad, or terribly right...how she addresses tonight will hold great power on the conclusion to this election.

HEALTHCARE is a big thing for me as well, and I don't think that either side is addressing it the way they should be. WE SHOULD BE REGULATING THE INSURANCE COMPANIES. Universal healthcare will reduce the QUALITY of healthcare in this country. Ever been to a free clinic? waiting MONTHS, DAYS, HOURS for a doctor's appointment?

I do not think it is right to judge universal healthcare based on current free clinics. Healthcare would change completely.

It's ABSOLUTELY right, because that's what it would become. Healthcare needs to be attacked at the insurance companies who have entirely too much power. Proposing universal healthcare would be devastating. It would take away funding for research and new treatments, quality would decline...Doctor's will lose their passion.

We don't even have to touch free clinics. How about state/county clinics? Insurance (of a nature) is provided by the state..(based on income)....I'VE WORKED IN THOSE PLACES. Charts are lost, wrong information given, the doctor's are so overworked they don't have the time to sit and talk to you...they are very "get in and get out"....people wait there ALL DAY LONG for an 8am appointment. You're right, healthcare would change completely...but not for the better.

I have about 8 or 9 big issues that sway me.. Gun control is a huge one for our family and our way of life.. I'd love to see prisons get privatized and run by corporations instead of the government.. Like that'll ever happen..

I really really have tried to keep most of my opinions to myself... It really irks me when people untruths about EITHER cantidate.. I detest uneducated voting. I could care less who anyone decides to vote for, as long as they treat it as a privledge and actually take the time to do a little research instead of jumping on a bandwagon..

I just want to say, since this is a debate, that Obama will NOT be raising your taxes unless you make over 600,000.

I believe that America is a 1st world country and as such, we take care of those that can't take care of themselves.

Taxes, I would pay more. The stuff we have here, the freedoms, the relative safety, comes at a prive, we have to pay for it. Also, our debt is so high it is ridiculous and we own it, it is ours. If we don't pay it, it will be called in some day, then what? I think we are being stupid and short-sighted in the way we are dealing with this.

I vote for President mainly for the Supreme Court nominees.

The national debt is what our government owes us. Are you saying WE are going to call it in? Not with gun control laws being what they are...
