Do you think...(McCain/Palin)
My aunt said something to me today that I didn't believe. For a minute. The more I think about it, the more plausible it might just be...it is politics after all.
![]() Do you think the McCain camp chose Palin in an effort to take the spotlight off of Barack's speech and the hope it had instilled in people? Do you think they chose her to steal the spotlight, KNOWING about all the controversy that would ensue? KNOWING she could/would always withdraw...and then they'll choose someone else - do you think it's "the plan"? I hate to think we could be manipulated that way...but like I said, it IS politics. ![]() Whaddyouthink?

They announced it the for that reason FOR SURE.
I think she was chosen because he realized he had to do something major to even remotely pull people back from Barack's speech. If she withdraws people will still be worried about his character judging skills. I doubt he picked her with the knowledge that she would withdraw.

Ha, that's what we're discussing in the other thread.
First answer, yes. They announced her trying to take some attention off of Obama and his accomplishments. They picked because they knew she would appeal to the Christian Right. Have you seen the People Magazine Picture. White, American and Apple Pie, through and through. McCain may not be happy with this woman, but his party is breathing a sigh of relief.

Yes, entirely possible. Wouldn't be the first time. Take a look at the Mier Supreme Court situation. After nominating a nut job like her, ANYONE that Bush nominated would look like a saint and Congress would go "Whew, at least it isn't another Mier." Congress fell for it hook, line, and sinker, too.
Of course he wants to one up Obama and take the focus off of him. That's part of the game.

I don't know about the whole withdrawal thing but I do think she was chosen to take the spotlight off of Obama. The only way to one up the nomination of an African American was to nominate a woman.

I think Romney would have been his safest choice to build a strong base. However, I think it's very possible Romney turned it down because he wants to run for Pres in 2012. I think other choices would have been good but not as much of a lock. After Romney, he still needed the conservative vote (Palin: check) but something that would get people talking (Palin: check again).
As far as hoping she would step down... I'm not sure. Still pondering.

I guess there is no way to know for sure and all we could do is speculate and judge them(possibly unfairly). Best to stay with the facts, What both parties are for and against and make your decision on that info. Just my thoughts
