So, maybe they didn't check her out so well.....
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26501863/
(I've c/p'ed here; read the link for the full story) ST. PAUL - A series of disclosures about Gov. Sarah Palin, Senator John McCain’s choice as running mate, called into question on Monday how thoroughly Mr. McCain had examined her background before putting her on the Republican presidential ticket. On Monday morning, Ms. Palin and her husband, Todd, issued a statement saying that their 17-year-old unmarried daughter, Bristol, was five months pregnant and that she intended to marry the father. Among other less attention-grabbing news of the day: it was learned that Ms. Palin now has a private lawyer in a legislative ethics investigation in Alaska into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state’s public safety commissioner; that she was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party, which has at times sought a vote on whether the state should secede; and that Mr. Palin was arrested 22 years ago on a drunken-driving charge. <snip> At the least, Republicans close to the campaign said it was increasingly apparent that Ms. Palin had been selected as Mr. McCain’s running mate with more haste than McCain advisers initially described. So...... what's an issue, and what's not? As far as I'm concerned, Bristol is off the table. There are far too many other interesting things here; there's no reason to cause unnecessary stress to Bristol. The rest of it, on the other hand, looks significant.

her teenage daughter being pregnant and marrying the father...well she's a teenager. they do stupid crap. it should not reflect on the parents necessarily. i mean i had sex at 15 and i'm damn lucky i didn't get pregnant. i just have a higher amount of hormones. |

The whole her having a private lawyer thing- yes, that looks significant...But the part about Mr. Palin being arrested 22 years ago, I don't see what that has to do with this campaign at all! Obviously it'd be nice if this family (or any family in office) to not have dirt on them...But what are the chances??
It's unfortunate that Bristol is pregnant right now and it was more or less kept a secret... But it shouldn't reflect her role as a govt. offical, neither should Mr. Palin's DUI...IMO

I think all of this is good news for democrats. The more people find **** wrong with her, the more people will be looking to vote for Obama.
I think most of the stuff they are pulling up on her is irrelevant, honestly. We all do things in our lives that we probably shouldnt do. I would hate to see what they would have on me if I was under a microscope like they are. |

OMG when will people say enough and stop digging into the trash and closets of people.
No one is perfect. No one should be criticizing her life and choices unless they are willing to stand up and allow their life to be scrutinized as well.

I think it's very important that we know each canidate inside and out. The media cannot sway me in this election though I refuse to let them. I do my own research on each person and decide from there. I'm not 100% pleased or confident with either of our options this year.
