Not even the Army can shatter my spirit.
![]() ![]() |
I'm putting this in debates because my mom taught me to never discuss politics or religion as it can lead to sticky situations and tough conversations...
![]() This news article: McCain camp compares Obama to Spears, Hilton is exactly why I just can't stand politics. First of all, I'm still researching the pros and cons of each candidate so I don't know who I am for sure voting for. Second of all, it wouldn't matter if this was the other way around and Obama was making this comparison, it's ridiculous IMO. Politicians become so desperate. I don't want another politician running the country I live in who makes comparisons of his competitor to celebrities that have their intelligence or lack thereof publicized for media purposes. That's as bad as having a president who says things like "internets." I find it distasteful when they stoop to levels of trying to ridicule one another. Can't they instead just focus on being "the bigger person" and showing what good they will do for our country? This article is just showing me that McCain is capable of throwing out an insult or two. McCain...focus on why you are better than Obama in ways you'll help our country that he won't... ![]() Your opinion? How do you feel about this "belittling" aspect of politics? I wish they'd focus more on explaining themselves and their own stances than on bashing their opponents.
I have a feeling we'd get a lot more done that way. |

I understand "mudslinging" for political purposes, if everyone only saw how great each candidate was how would either of them win? Now the comparison to Britney Spears is a little extreme and ridiculous....actually it's completely distasteful. However, the media is responsible for a lot of the mudslinging, it's not always the campaign itself. Though in this case, it is.
I know that when I'm selecting a candidate to vote for especially for president, I want to know the good AND the bad. Bad things are never brought out in a good way, ever. So from now until November the mudslinging is only gonna get worse....but as it's looking I don't even want to vote this year, I don't want to contribute to the demise of our country.....

Campaigns take a very, very calculated risk when circulating negative, attack ads.
The goal of ads is to encourage the Undecided voters to vote for a particular candidate. Now, the people who have already decided how they're going to vote (and aren't likely to change their mind at this point), they get all up in arms about the attack ad and the side that wrote/released it has to defend it. This 'discussion' is what is fed to the Undecided voters to help them make their choice. There is a segment of the population that believes Spears and Hlton are SOOOO bad, if Obama is doing what they do then he must be bad also. There is a segment that believes that attack ads are SOOOO awful, anyone who makes them is bad and underserving of office. The question is, which segment is bigger; which segment represents more actual votes?

I really hate election year with a passion. I hate the mudslinging, the gossiping, ect. It is like watching two old people in the nursing home that aren't getting their way!!!
I don't want that crap. I look at what they stand for, what they believe, how can they make a difference in our economy and help our military. I really don't like either canidate but I'm leaning more towards McCain because Obama stated one time that he wants to get rid of all nuclear wepons. Not that I like them, but they are job security. Obama is just a bit to smooth and something about him makes me nervious.

I think that McCain went too far.
Obama is now the rockstar people want in office, and as somone said in another debate, McCain is the bumbling old grandpa. ![]() The only thing that freaks me out about Obama was the speech he put on in Israel. I now it sounds crazy religious of me, but when someone of power talks about a true peace in Israel, I get a little scared. (see: Left Behind series and Revelations) |

I always feel like I am in middle school when elections come around (okay, I WAS in middle school for one of them... )
What is the point of calling each other names? Now, making it a point to point out an opponents stance on something and explaining why THAT is wrong is okay.. that is all part of debate... but to just run around calling each other names and making low blows that have NOTHING to do with politics? that is just silly |

Yeah, I can't stand that part of politics. We would be MUCH better off without it, but unfortunately, it wins elections. I personally think the American people should be demanding more than that from ALL of our elected officials. It won't change unless we demand it to change.
