Personally, I think what a candidate's spouse is saying is just as important. I think McCain's statement didn't get as much press because the media knew that most would interpret his as gaining a better appreciation at a young age when he was still figuring out what was important to him. She, on the other hand, JUST found a since of pride while her husband is running for the highest office. The opposite of pride is shame and I don't want a first lady who has been ashamed of this country for most of her life.

I think McCain and his family get away with a hell of a lot due to what HE went through himself. And I believe his camp and his PR reps have totally played that aspect and that aspect only to the American Public. Michelle Obama said nothing wrong...Can we all honestly say that you have always been a zillion times supportive and understanding of this country, have any of us ever felt that this country did something that you are just ashamed of? I think people support McCain more because he was a POW... My husband was born into the military, his mom did well over 20 years in the army, he went to a military college, then joined up himself. I can honestly tell you he didnt resent this country because of his moms job or what not. He was an individual who can make up his own mind. I honestly do not think that there is ANY difference in what the two said.

See, I don't think there's a difference in what they said, either. I do think there's a difference in the coverage, and that's what gets me. She had to spend weeks, months, explaining and defending her statement. He hasn't had to do anything of the sort; it's like it's been ignored and overlooked.
I don't get that. |

Umm probably because Democrats in general are seen as unpatriotic and seeing as M. Obama is associated with the Democratic party there is that automatic assumption by many. McCain on the other hand is Republican which means he gets the automatic assumption of patriotism. I know that sounds harsh but it is a pretty realistic view of many people.
