I have not been proud of my country for a very long time--
AND I too agree with her sentiment... we do have something to be proud of- a candidate that is getting the under 25 yr olds to vote, and a nation voicing that there can be change and a woman or a black man as president can happen... |

I While I agree that one sentence is being taken out of context to some degree, I find it sad that somebody that is in thier 40's just now is finding something to be proud of her country in. Isn't she proud of the advances in civil rights and other advances made for women in this country? Many of those when she was a young child and young adult? I find plenty to be proud of in this country, despite the disagreements and differences among our parties. The wonderful thing is we can have these differences and speak freely about them.

I am going to copy what I just wrote to someone else last night:
I am 35 years old and never in my life did I think I would see this, a woman who is almost one step away from president. I know it might sound silly to be so excited about something like this, but I am. I told you I would not get invested again, but I am, I can't help it. This country is supposed to be so progressive, but are we really? Other countries have had females leaders, countries that are deeply religious, countries that you wouldn't expect it from. Other countries gave women rights before we did, other countries did away with slavery before we did, and it took a war for us to do it. I have a renewed sense of patriotism in my country that can recognize that a woman or a black man can do the job and do it well. The generations coming up behind me will never have to wonder if it can ever happen, they will know it can. Nygal (my son, who is half black) will know it can happen. Does this make sense?

It's very exciting, this election. I honestly didn't think in my lifetime we would have a serious bid for the presidency by a black man OR a woman of any color. I am really truly proud of our country for the first time in a long while too. I am proud that we can come together and at least agree on what we don't want and don't like in a president, if nothing else, and look at what we have come to an agreement on....
It really kinda makes tears come to my eyes! |
