With All This Political Talk Gearing Up... Obama Vs. Edwards
I put this here, because I know there are lots of passionate people on this board, and there is no telling how it MAY go...
![]() But, I was wondering, for those who are attracted to Obama... WHY and WHAT swayed you? Are you still making your decision? And what is it about him that attracts you to him over someone like Edwards? |

And both of the candidates have taken policy stances more or less from Edwards, if you actually do comparisons. Edwards actually has, not only IDEAS but ways to make those things happen within the context of our current political culture, and his stance has been the SAME all throughout this campaign... Plus, he's a great speaker as well. I'm just saying, to anyone out there, be open minded, no matter who you support, and make sure they are the real deal, and not just talking the talk. How do you feel about Obama's "lack of experience?" And his missing some very important Senatorial votes while campaigning? |

I will NOT vote for Obama because he voted straight up that abortion is the right thing and that partial birth abortion is justifiable!!! Anyone who thinks it is ok the kill a baby especially at 20-26 weeks along is NOT someone I want ruling my country!!
This is the same reason I will NOT be voting for Edwards!!!

what people's issue is with letting them CHOSE, as opposed to having the government step in and explicitly say you CANNOT... plus I think that there are SOME situations where partial birth is justifiable... granted not many... but I'll shut up about that whole abortion issue... I am not wearing my

Can I just say how much I HATE that abortion is such a huge issue?
Based on everything I read about Obama, he voted against SB230 in 1997 because it would've opened the doors to make ALL abortions illegal. Partial-birth abortion is a ridiculous thing to base a vote on. The vast majority of doctors REFUSE to perform it because of the psychological stress it causes.... AND because it goes against their own personal morals. PBA is raaaaare. (In fact, I believe it's now illegal with very few exceptions) There's no doubt it's cruel and ****ed up.... but in my opinion, it's kind of a non-issue. |

I don't want any one RULING our nation we are not ruled over we have no king or queen.
There is no such thing as partial birth abortion it is a made up phrase. Dr.s that spoke to congress on this issue were ignored completely. Late abortions are not routine they are most often done for a woman who's child is going to die shortly after birth, or for a woman who's child will have severe abnormalities, in other cases to save the mothers life. For example (hypothetical situation can not happen to me at all or at least chances would be very rare) were I told that after genetic testing my child would be born with Tay-Sachs then I would want to abort. I will not bring a child into the world so that it can suffer in beyond imaginable pain & die a slow lingering death at around the age of 5. Thankfully my religion would allow my Rabbi and fellow Jews to support me in the crisis rather then condemn me for that choice. Banning so called partial birth abortion leaving NO exemption for mothers in THAT situation, leaving NO exemption for the mother's life either is not something I want my next president voting yes on. It would of led to making abortion illegal again, and while I do not like abortion I feel every woman must have choice when it comes to reproduction and that is FAR bigger then just abortion.

I haven't personally decided between the two, but I will say this...
From speaking with people about them, I have come to realize that a lot of the attraction to Obama has to do with his relative newness to the political arena. People feel like someone is less likely to be jaded, cynical, open to financial persuasion, or corrupt if they haven't been in the political game for decades. Politics is seen as a job that turns good people bad. The money involved makes people greedy. The power makes them corrupt. And if there is a candidate who is talking about all of the changes they want to make, it is more likely they will still be idealistic enough to work towards those changes if they haven't been around long enough to be hardened. Politicians who have been doing it for decades bring up concerns like, "Are they just lying to keep their cushy jobs?" in people. People want change. That's why it seems to me that Obama is getting so much support even though he doesn't really differ on the issues from Edwards or Clinton. That and he is VERY charismatic and intelligent. After 7 years now of a President who can't put a proper sentence together half the time and evokes fear in more than half the country, people love that Obama can speak well and inspire them in the process. Just my observations on the matter.
