Need experienced input!
Only time will tell but im not very patient so if anyone has any info that might ease my anxiousness I'd be very grateful.....
I have quite the predicament! It's good and bad news.... My DB was playing volleyball in AStan last week and landed in a pothole twisting his knee pretty bad. More likely than not he has torn his ACL. He's waiting to hear from the docs on what they are going to do with him. I am worried they won't be thorough enough in checking him over. It's just a field hospital. I could be way off in that thinking??? He's a tough guy and has had issues with this knee before which he has sucked up and somehow made it over there without any issues...until the pothole!I am wondering (I know no one has futuristic vision here) but will he go to Germany if his ACL is torn? Or back to San Antonio (Fort Sam Houston-his home state) for medical care? They can't leave him there to duke it out with a bum knee. That's wrong on a lot of levels. Any experience ladies? He may have some answers in a couple days. I am waiting anxiously and trying not to get my hopes up he will get outta there and somewhere safe and get fixed up. I wanna know they will take good care of him. He doesn't have his candy striper there to kiss it and make it better!! ![]() __________________ |

i don't see why they would send him to the states for medical care. he might get transfered to a different area closer by for proper care or do what they can for him where he is. military is nice and unpredictable that way. keep us posted!

from what i can discern, they get sent to germany for thorough medical care, and if it can't be taken care of there, the get sent back to the states to specialists. don't know why a torn acl couldn't be taken care of without specialists, though. i wouldn't get my hopes up that he'd be sent home over it.

One of the guys in my bf's platoon broke his ankle and they just took care of it there and are having him heal there in Afghanistan. They just gave him other things to do that didn't require him to leave the fob/cop instead of sending him all the way back to the states. Usually when it's something more serious that requires urgent medical care or even surgery they go to Germany and make the decision there to send back to the states or not. That's just going by what my DB has told me. I hope that he didn't tear his acl and that he heals up. Torn ACL's are not fun! I'm sure he wouldn't mind having you take real good care of him though

It's more likely than not torn. I have read how hard rehab is but I'm more concerned if he will stick to it or not! He is stubborn....he will probably try to rough it thru the rest of the deployment with the busted knee! lol men! Anxiously waiting....thanks everyone for the input! |

Good/ Bad News...
His ACL is torn but he is going to stay, "I can't leave my comrades here" were his exact words. His knee and the muscles surrounding it are so strong he is able to walk but they put him on light duty for a while. Knowing him, he won't stick to the docs orders but one can only hope. They documented it so if he has any more problems and when he's ready to get it taken care of its on file. So back to game plan A! He was so sweet and sent flowers to my work this past Saturday with a beautiful not thanking me because this has been very difficult and i have "been nothing less than great through it all and that's why I love you dearly". Awwww! I'll put my candy striper costume away....for now....
