I think it all depends, My DF's deployment is suppose to be in April for about 6 months. BUT they will be doing workups starting soon and that makes it feel a lot longer because they are gone for weeks at a time!
This will be my DF's 2nd deployment and my 1st! Dreading every minunte of it!!

Sea deployments are usually for about 6 months, and usually happen once every two years or so for each boat. Work-ups start a few months before deployment and are generally A LOT of time out to sea. They could be "underway" for anywhere from a day to multiple weeks at any point in time. But remember the only thing that is consistant about the Navy is that EVERYTHING CHANGES! My DF has been in the Navy for about a year and a half and has been at his current command since January of '05. He is currently deployed and I just found out this weekend that they will be deploying again sometime mid '07 as well
Hope this Helps

DH has been on workups I don't even know how many times. 2 sea deployments, longest was about 9 months, and one land deployment to Iraq for 6 months.

DH has been deployed twice, first one was for 9 months and this one is suppose to be for 6 months. Besides scheduled deployments, the longest he has been out for a workup or anything was 2 1/2 months. Other than that it ranges from 1 week -3 weeks, but they are often and not very spaced out.

On sube it depends whether it's a fast attack or a boomer. Fast attacks go out for 6months at a time plus short underways in between. Boomers have a more set schedule and are out 3months at a time then a certain amount in port. Unlike fast attacks they have 2 crews (blue and gold crew) which makes it easier to have a more set schedule since one crew leaves and the other one stays in port.

I think the average for deployment is anywhere from 4-9 months. I think anphibs take shorter deployments since they are just dropping Marines off. Dh is going our for five months this time, last time was six, and the time before that the ship was gone for 10 due to the war. They had to turn around and go back to the middle east.

My dh has done 4 deployments
2 on a ship and 2 in Iraq The 2 on ship were 6 months the two on land were almost 8 months and right at 7 months Work ups oh good lord way too many to count. There were times that they left one day and came back the next cause something broke. Then they were usually for a couple of weeks to a couple of months. He also did 2 RIMPACs which is where the West coast guys go and play around HI for 3 months All of those were on Amphibious ships. |
