    Newbie with a deployed Marine

    Advertisements
    Hi everybody,

I just joined this group because I am in need of support for my marine who is deployed. He has been deployed since August of last year and will not be home until February of next year. I haven't heard from him in 2 months and my mind is constantly all over the place and not sure what to make of the situation. Any advice would be great!

    Welcome to MSOS!

Wow, that's a long deployment.. Congrats on hitting the one year mark though! That means it's getting closer to the end How long have y'all been together? How long have y'all gone without communication before and how are you communicating? Snail mail?

Hi! This site is awesome, the women are super helpful and supportive.

I can't believe he's on an 18 month deployment! Had no idea Marines deployed for that long.

Keep strong! I'm sorry you haven't heard from him in a long time.

Hi and welcome! I, too, had no clue that Marines can deploy for 18 months. I just asked my DB (AD Marine) and he said the longest they typically go is 8 months. Have you met your DB in person, OP? Two months is also a long time to not hear anything...

How long have you guys been dating?

He's Marine Security Guard at an embassy they usually move a couple times, working at a few different embassies/locations that time. It's not like a normal deployment. All but the det commander have to be single with no dependents.

we considered my husband being an MSG det commander, but his monitor wouldn't approve it. So I don't have any personal experience with it, but know a little. Welcome!

They undergo a lot of intense, expensive training before they go. It's very specialized and rigorous. I think they do 3 different locations. I thought it was longer than that. Det commanders go for 3 years but bring their families.

While he's on Embassy Duty are you able to skype and email and all of that? I don't know much about MSG duty but congatulations on making it a year. That's really great!

Being apart can definitely be difficult. Hopefully you are doing things to keep your life full and robust while he's gone.

How long have you been dating? How did you meet?

Is there some reason he gave you for not being able to contact you for two months? That's very unusual.
