already..
Well, DB got to his first duty station after basic and AIT yesterday. He got to Ft. Drum and as soon as he got there he informed me he will be joining a replacement battlion in Iraq. He is leaving sometime in December. This is our first deployment, obviously, and i'm just devastated. I knew it was inevitable that he would be getting deployed, but was definitely NOT expecting him to have orders to go to iraq the DAY he got to Drum. I don't even know what to think now. He has gotten no leave whatsoever the whole time he has been in the Army, since before he started basic. Now he says he's not sure they will even let him come home before he goes over there. Please don't judge or criticize me right now, bc i really don't need that at this time. Just looking for some support! This will be my home for a few weeks!! thanks ladies!

You know this sucks so bad for you.....
But there is a good side...... He leaves he now he gets back sooner, becuase he is replacing someone. So hopefully he wont be gone a full deployment and he should get the full time before he deploys again. Mine deploys in feb and I wish he didn't have to go for the full amount of time. But yea it sucks. If I could I would definately give you a huge hug. |

a big THANKS to all of your quick replies ladies! you're helping me feel a little better already! i am lucky that for my first deployment it is going to be a little shorter than others. not by much though because his unit has been there for less than a month. i'm still grateful, though! DB was told the real date today and it will be at the very beginning of december, and he will not be issued any leave.
this really upsets me because i have barely seen him since before basic. but, i have to forget about that and just focus on being positive for him!

DB found out about his deployment as soon as he was placed with his unit at Bragg. Hopefully he will get some leave before he deploys. It will be okay and the sooner he leaves the sooner he comes home. Feel free to PM me anytime, I will be facing a deployment in a similar time frame.
