pre-d briefing - what to expect?

Can anyone tell me what to expect from pre-deployment briefing?

I'm just ready to get this thing started so it can be done and I really don't even want to go to the dang briefing but I know it has to be done, and it's our turn today. Somebody prepare me so I can keep the emotions at home.

it's usually just a lot of information on what to expect, where to find help, what you need to do before he deploys, etc. I've only attended them for COMPASS (program I volunteer with) so far but that's pretty much what it's for. definitely recommend going!

Ours was pretty informative. They showed pictures of where they were going to be staying. Told us how they were going to do R&R. Talked about what communication would be like.

Yup tons of information, how to contact the red cross, what to expect, FRG talking and inviting ppl to join, goals and just lots of information!

Have no clue, never been to one, but I wish you luck!!!

DB usually just gives me all the info himself, mainly because I dont know if they even have a briefing due to how often they go over there.

Its part of their mandatory checklist for every deployment -- but I can see why he'd just give you the info himself to be honest. It was just a lot of information thrown at us... a couple forms to fill out for them to contact you and the DSN information for how to call and talk to your spouse for your 30 minutes a week. There were a lot of handouts and just "stuff".

They just kept stressing communication, communication, communication and telling the military member they had no excuse not to communicate with their families and telling the spouses (there were only 3 of us there) that if we don't hear from them "no news is BAD news" and we should get a hold of the first shirt or family support immediately and they will get us an update on our spouse.

They had a handy pre-deployment checklist for things to be taken care of on a personal level that I really appreciated and... ya. It wasn't bad and I kept my emotions under control, so yay! I'm doing ok -- much better than I thought I would be doing at this point!

Yeah, I dont think I could even go to one, since Im not a spouse. All of DB's emergency contact stuff goes to his sister, since she's kinda technically the closest family he has (shes 5 hours away). But I always kinda figured with the AF that 'no news is BAD news'. They usually go to places where communication is pretty good, so the no news is good news thing doesnt really work well for AF.
