He got orders....
Well he finally got his orders.. It looks like he'll be going unaccompanied to Bahrain... We've been thru deployments on a ship before, but nothing like this. Does anyone have any helpful info? He's been to Bahrain a million times, but for never more the a couple days, and now he'll be living there. Does anyone know how his BAH will work? Will we still get it since we own our home here in va beach and b/c I have to stay behind or would be lose it? I know that E4's and above can't live on base, which means he will have to get a place out in town.. I'm just worried about paying our mortgage and then rent for an apartment. We can't sell our house, thats a definite because of the economy, so if anyone has in advice or tips on Bahrain in general I would really appreciate it

Im not sure what they will call it, for your branch, but he will get compensated for having to maintain 2 separate households, so long as your married. if your not (i just saw the "future mrs...." ) then he just gets his normal overseas pays.

He would likely be placed in the barracks or bachelors housing depending on rank if it works anything like Japan and you will get BAH for where you are now. I've heard that Bahrain is now accepting dependents. Have you considered going along?

I could techniqually, but as far as the navy is concerned its an unaccompanied tour... So I guess I could go over there on my own free will but I'm not sure how that would work.... They won't let him stay on base, thats the only thing we have heard for sure. He is an E5, and anyone above a E4 is required to live off base...

Also, I know if I choose to move to Japan on my own free will they'll send me home and/or you loose your BAH... so before you go that route, make sure you get all the info. |

If you are married you should be able to get an accompanied tour and go with him. If you don't he will be a geo bachelor. He needs to go to his Personnel Support Det and sit down and ask these questions, or contact his gaining command/sponsor. If you aren't married when he moves his BAH changes to his new duty station.
Sorry about the house situation. This is why we won't be buying a house till we settle down. I don't want to have to deal with that mess. Good luck.

Geo Bachelor housing.... thats the wording I was looking for! I would do what Solstice suggested. Unless you don't want to move there... |
