For me it's knowing, cause then everything we do I think "This is the last time we are giong be doing this as a while family until you get back" and I count the days leading up to when he leaves...and I cry more.
When Nate left for deployment we didn't find out until the day before...we didn't even get a 24 hours notice...we had to run to the store and get everything for his deployment and get all the phone numbers written down for me, and make sure everything was in order...and then have time for us to sit and spend one final night as a family.... It was hard knowing that the things we had planned for that next weekend weren't gonna happen but it was nice being able to have done all the things we did do together not having or knowing that he was going to leave. I'd prefer not to know at all up until the day before he leaves...

I haven't been through a deployment but I think that the not knowing would kill me because I'd want to be able to make the most of our time together.

Not knowing. But that's my personality, I like to know everything about everything, despite the pain it may bring to me. I know Mike is going to be going on a deployment to Iraq, but we don't know when, and it is killing me. Everyday I ask him if he's found out. I know it is killing him too.

I haven't been through a deployment either, but it would kill me to not know. I would want to take advantage of every opprotunity I had with my husband before he leaves.

For me it is not knowing. But I'm a planner so I like to have things planned out and know what is going on in advance all the time.

I don't think either is worse than the other. When we're on sea duty, we know he's going to go, so WHEN he goes is really no matter. It IS nice to be able to plan though

I have to know! i have to be able to get mentally and emotionally prepared.
Now what really stinks is when you do all that preparing and it gets cancelled and then back on, then cancelled
