Any tips, hints or more?
Okay, after nearly 20 yrs in the Navy, my husband is going on his first boat deployment! Argh! Needless to say, neither of us know what to expect, because I was never on the ship either. Any other CPO spouses (or others) who can let me know what he needs to bring along, what kind of space he will have, etc. I guess he will have a meal card in the CPO Mess? He mentioned something about that is what they pay for sodas, etc with and it deducts out of their checking account. I have tried researching on the internet, but NADA! He went in to the uniform store last night to order his wash khakis and coveralls and the command ordered his flight deck pants and boots. Also, if you think of anything that he should NOT take that he might be tempted to...haha.
Thanks!

My dh husband hasn't been on a ship since making Chief only this year. He does however have 8 years of actual sea duty. I'll ask him about the meal ticket for you.
As far as what to bring, he loved his IPod and his laptop. I also think books are a great thing to bring. You can mail him his magazine subscriptions, or maybe he can change any addresses to his ship address. The ships have stores but if he wants something particular that the ship doesn't have then he'll need to bring it. My dh always took all of his undies, tshirst, and socks. I think he did his own laundry so things wouldn't get lost. He brought only a couple of sets of civilian clothes w/ him. Hmmm, that's all I can think of for now. I'm sure somebody else will have more to add. HTH a little. |

they don't have a whole lot of space and depends on what kind of ship it is, but alot of ships do have the ship stores on it, but I alwasy just send my dh a care package every couple of weeks so that he could save his money for ports instead of having to spend it on costly items on the ship. Like one of the girls said my dh loved his Ipod, its a piece of home they can take with them, also send him with atleast 1 ship to shore phone card for safe keeping you can get it at the Nex! Also Pack extra undies and t-shirts and socks don't just send him with 7 of each...send him with like 14 of each...some weeks he might miss wash days or wash might be down or people do steal them from the wash..(yes it does happen) and if he doesn't have extra he will end up having to wear the same ones over again! If he can do his own wash himself by all means have him do it, but of not then good thing he has extra, and every now and then ask him if he needs more.
Just make sure before he leaves you get a POA and you make sure that your ID isn't going to expire while hes gone or that any important business that needs both of you is going to happen. If there is anything that is just in his name only make sure that he does get ahold of them and gives them the POA so that you can do the business while he is away, just incase anything happens while hes away you can handle it. Don't leave any loose ends untied. thats all I can think of right now, its been awhile since my dh has been deployed so i'm sure someone else can add more! |
