I'm torn on this subject. I think that smoking should be banned while driving IF there is a child in the car. I think that smoking in front of a building at a public entrance is unnecessary. I think that you should be able to do whatever you want in your own vehicle, as long as it doesn't pose a hazard to other drivers or passengers. The only time I've ever been irritated by another driver smoking is when I was driving the jeep with the top off and a passenger to my left was smoking. The smoke wafted right in my face. It was

I'm sick of having smoke in my face everywhere I go. The malls here when you are entering the hallways all you can smell is cigarettes because of people standing outide the doors smoking. I know people have a right to smoke.. but it's so harmful and offensive to so many people. Second hand smoke actually gives me a bad headache.

i'm going to post from both sides of the argument, because i've been both
as a smoker: no one has the right to tell me where/when/how i can smoke, because it is my body. also if i want to smoke in my car let me, if i want to smoke outside starbucks let me, just walk away from it. not as a smoker: honestly i think they need to enact some ordinances such as within 500ft of a building you can't smoke or have designated "smoking" areas like they do at airports and bus stations. also they shouldn't be allowed to smoke with a child in the car OR in their house with a child there. unfortunately making it inconvienent isn't going to stop the smoking industry just like raising the prices or having those "truth" ads that are MADE by a cigarette company. how many businesses do you think will really make a call if people are smoking closer than the ordinance "allows"? none that i've ever met! |

I used to be a smoker, but I had the courtesy to look out for those that might not appreciate my habit.
