Yes, I do. There is a part of me that is hesitant, but we shouldn't punish the many because of the few.

I am so torn on this whole issue.

I wish we could take in thousands of refugees, make their lives better, and get them away from the horrible things happening in their homeland.

However, I wish we had a better vetting process in place. I know it's difficult when they are fleeing their homeland and most struggle to have documentation. Also, documentation can be forged by those hell bent on doing harm. But, there doesn't seem to be an answer to this right now. It goes against my nature to turn people away or shut down borders. However, I just don't know what we should do to make sure the people who truly need help are getting it.

But couldnt this have been said of all refugees?
Iraqis could have been AQ or ISIS
Afghanis could be Taliban o AQ
in the past Vietnamese could have been Vietcong etc

I don't think we should exclude entire nationalities from being able to be admitted as refugees because they might be affiliated with terrorist organizations.

That said I do think we need to step up our vetting process and if the names or biometric information of intended refugees match those of someone who is watch listed or a known foreign fighter we shouldn't allow them in.

Any reason in particular for this? I'm not trying to be rude or call you out. I'm genuinely just curious.

Since you touched on this, I recently read that the US's process for entry is one of the most stringent in the world for refugees but I can't figure out where I read about that. Will be back later.
But if that's true, do you think it's more acceptable for us to take them in?

the process is part of my job...while it is the most thorough in the world probably it still could be a lot better.

Texas' governor said the same thing. Not that it's really his call or anything but I guess it's red meat for his base.

I don't think we should impose a ban on anyone for their nationality. Apparently one of the things he said in a letter he wrote to Obama was that nobody could 100% guarantee that people coming from Syria weren't affiliated with terrorists. And I mean that's true but like PP said, nobody can guarantee that for anyone coming from anywhere so ... I don't see the need or purpose of a ban.

We have enough issues to solve without taking in a whole new wave of refugees. We don't need the strain they would put on our resources. I think that other Middle Eastern countries should take them in.

This is what I was thinking without being able to put it into words. We have so many of our own issues in the US and while I think it's great to help others, it's kind of like I'd rather us fix our own shit before taking on everyone else's problems.
