    Help me out here.

    This story is trending: http://www.buzzfeed.com/stephaniemcn...pgp#.dk1rkng0e

The TL/DR breakdown: Woman overhears conversation regarding how large a tank top in Old Navy is. Take offense, cries, leaves, returns, posts photo on social media of herself in tank top.

Others in social media are saying she was fat shamed.

My question: How was she fat shamed? The people talking weren't talking to her. They may not even have been aware of her presence.

So how was a conversation between a teen and her mom "fat shaming"?

I'm not saying she wasn't, I'm just saying that my initial reaction to this story is that I don't get the connection and I want to know what I'm missing.

    In debates, just in case.

I haven't read the article yet, but based solely on your synopsis I see no fat shaming. I see someone victimizing herself for some interwebs attention. Now off to read!

I don't think that was fat shaming at all.

Just read the article. Yeah, I think the mom and her daughter were just talking and not paying attention to who was around. That's what most people do when they're out shopping together-- they have conversations. I find it silly that she let that comment get to her so much that she went out of the store crying. They were talking about a tank top afterall

It really seemed like she's super insecure, she wanted her 15 minutes of fame, and she's way too oversensitive.

I'm not hip on modern terminology (see me asking in other threads what "af" was ), but it's my understanding that "fat-shaming" is putting someone else down because of his/her weight. After reading the article, it doesn't seem like the girl even looked at the person allegedly "shamed". Is no one allowed to comment anymore when clothing is large? Are we fat shaming when we show two people behind a large pair of pants?
