    Breastfeeding on base.

This has been going around the internet, a memo sent out by the base commander at Mtn Home AFB. According to some milsos it was printed and placed around at the family gym (as well as other areas on base)

(sorry if this image is large)

Do you think the base has the right to tell mothers how/where they can feed their children?

I am really upset by this. My daughter was born while we were living on this base and was publicly breastfed all over that base

I think, technically, the commander of a base does have the power to make that call.

And I think it is complete and utter bullshit.

It's utter bat shit. But I know a few upper ranks right now are working on repealing this and educating the commander on federal law.

I would be upset too but he may have the authority to make that rule, not sure

I was just reading about this and apparently military bases are under federal law as opposed to state law BUT base commanders are given the authority to issue memos to supersede them and set policies when they deem it necessary. I'm not sure what the appeal process would be like to remove something they have issued, or even how far that power would reach, but I haven't found anything contrary to that yet. *sigh*

I have heard a rumor (nothing official though) that the policy has already been removed. But it was just chatter from local spouses

I hope that is the case, and Colonel Scared-of-boobs learned his lesson.

I'm curious about what exactly prompted this. Not that it makes any difference to my opinion on it, but briefings and policies almost always happen as a result of someone doing something stupid... I mean we have a policy against picking up burning couches here and that obviously wasn't unprompted. Anyway, I think it's stupid and hopefully it'll go away quickly.

This made my morning. I could see this being an ill conceived attempt to deal with someone complain about boobs in the wild rather than informing them of an mom's/infant's legal right. I do find i a bit odd its aimed at civilian employees. I just am having a hard time envisioning where a worker is "causing a scene" with feeding her kid.
