Ray Rice's wife, Janay, slams his punishment - CNN.com

(CNN) -- Janay Rice, wife of suspended NFL player Ray Rice, apparently posted a statement Tuesday on Instagram calling the situation a "nightmare."
"To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass off for all his life just to gain ratings is a horrific (sic)," she wrote.
The Baltimore Ravens released Rice on Monday after a video surfaced showing him knocking her out with a punch in February, and dragging her limp body out of a casino elevator.
In response to texts sent to him on Tuesday, Rice texted CNN sports journalist Rachel Nichols: "I'm just holding strong for my wife and kid that's all I can do right now."
His wife's Instagram post, reported by various media, appeared to be authentic.
"No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family," she wrote. "To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret every day is a horrible thing."

She said in the Instagram post: "THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get."
Here is the full video. Pretty graphic.

This video is beyond disgusting and shocking. Feel so sorry for her because it's obvious she is a victim here. The fact that she is defending him really hurts my heart.

They are playing this off like it's a one time thing. I don't know.

I don't understand why he had to get axed from the NFL.

Why is their personal life any business of the NFL. I know he got suspended for the incident in Feb because he got charged and sentenced to community service or something. But why axed entirely?

I get she may be a victim of domestic violence, but why did she get married to him right after the incident?

Maybe cause they decided it's bad for their image to have a player on their team that beats his wife (or then fiancee)...

Good on them for firing him. I have no sympathies for him.

I'll let someone else handle this because this post, to me, is all sorts of wrong.

Why? Because members of the NFL are role models. This situation went viral and what king of message would that send to the young people who idolize him? Good on them for canning him.

As for her actions, who knows? Even if it was a first for them, statistically speaking, it won't be the last.

Because victims are fucking manipulated and molded and so many times made to feel like it is THEIR fault it happened. Kiind of like your judgy tone with the whole "well why did she marry him then?" It is a horrible cycle where they are abused, made to feel like THEY did something wrong and their abuser didn't mean it or they're sorry or it won't happen again or or or... it takes on average something insane like 7 or 9 times? for a victim to leave their abuser before they do and that is IF and ONLY IF they aren't killed first.

Nike also dropped him and I am glad. I wouldn't want someone representing my company or program like him either.

In the original press conference he was thanking her dad for the support and I thought that was so sad. It's hard enough for a victim to break away from domestic violence but to not even have the support of your parents?

She should have no say in his punishment. She "forgave" him, okay. We don't need to set the precedent that the abuser's fate is in the hands of the victim. The victim doesn't need to hear about how if she would have just been cool about it he wouldn't have lost his career and his life wouldn't be ruined. IMO this is making it clear that his actions are not okay, period. And with or without the support of his victim he is facing his consequences.
