    Death Penalty

    Advertisements
I have such mixed emotions about the death penalty. I have the usual visceral reaction when I hear about some horrible person committing a heinous crime. My first reaction is almost always "kill them". However, what about those who are convicted of crimes they don't commit. Is killing 1 or 2 innocent people part of the "greater good"? What if it was your family or friend (that was executed)

I do not support the death penalty at all. Your point about innocent people being condemned to death is a good one ... our justice system is FAR from perfect and it kind of amazes me (not in a good way) that we still deal out capital punishment.

However, even if we could somehow conjure up a system that was 100% perfect, I would still not be in favor of the death penalty.

I don't know what questions you're asking with family or friend ... I certainly wouldn't want a family or friend put to death. If someone killed my family or my friend, I imagine I would want them to die ... but I also know that would be vengeance and not justice, and I don't think I should have a say in what happens to them, justice should be impartial.

I don't support the death penalty and I have a hard time understanding the gut reaction some people have of "kill them." Like I find that really disturbing personally.

Add me to the anti-capital punishment team. I don't care if they are all 100% guilty. I still don't support capital punishment.

I only support it if the prisoner wants it. If someone would rather die than spend 60 years in prison, that's fine with me. I don't need anyone to suffer for years locked in a cell to satisfy my sense of "justice".

I'm completely against it. Basically it doesn't solve any problems. It's not a deterrent for crimes, and it ends up costing a ton more money because of all of the appeals. I don't really have a problem with people being killed for killing (not that I think it's ok, I just don't care whatsoever and have no opinion about that) but it doesn't actually make sense.

Absolutely against it. I can't imagine ever willingly choosing to end someone else's life. If there is no mercy anywhere, IMO, we are no better than animals.

I don't support the death penalty and I'm quite happy living in a state where it's been done away with.

I also don't understand how someone can be pro-life and pro-death penatly.
